Of the 100 years that the substation has been in existence, Van Dinter has spent 55 years associated with it.
Van Dinter became acquainted with the substation after graduating from Marquette University in 1955 and taking a job with Wisconsin Electric Power Company, now We Energies.
One of his first assignments at the railroad museum was to reequip the substation that was then supplying power to the entire Village of East Troy.
Continuing his career at We Energies and climbing the ranks, Van Dinter used his leadership to oversee more than 400 people through their daily work.
In 1994, Van Dinter returned to the substation to volunteer at the East Troy Electric Railroad.
Van Dinter currently sits on the Board of Directors and serves as the corporate secretary.
President of the East Troy Electric Railroad Norman Carlson noted that Van Dinter's 55-year connection to the substation made naming the substation after him obvious.
"Van Dinter is the heart and soul of the railroad," Carlson said.
